A popular app on the PlayStation 5 and PS4 will see future service close. The Beat Saber developers Beat Games revealed that later updates for its critically acclaimed rhythm will no longer see updates as of today for the PS5, PS4, and PSVR platforms. The game will still be available for purchase, any songs or packs bought before June 18th will still be accessible. Cross-buy will remain active between the Sony platforms, but the grander news is that on January 21st 2026, multiplayer will no longer be available across the consoles.

"Dear PS4/PS5 players,

As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025," the studio said in an official statement. "Our passion for VR remains unwavering. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years."

What's the reason behind this decision? Meta owns Beat Games, and made the decision to prioritize its marketing and development on its Quest VR headsets. It has stayed at the top of the PlayStation charts, so this comes as a considerable blow for owners of the PlayStation VR 2 headset.
