The poor Powerpuff Girls. Once a cornerstone series for Cartoon Network has now had a difficult time re-establishing itself since the ending of the original cartoon in 2005. In 2020, a live action adaptation was announced to be in production for the CW Network. Serving as a sequel, the show would present the girls in their early or mid-20s, in what would be a fall from grace, or sorts.

In 2021, a trailer was produced, but never saw the light of day, until now, at least. On March 6th, this teaser, which ran for several minutes long, leaked onto the internet for everyone to see. Starring Chloe Bennet (Blossom), Dove Cameron (Bubbles), and Yana Perrault (Buttercup) as the titular heroines, and Donald Faison as Professor Drake Utonium.

Suffice to say, it's as bad as one would expect. After an event that results in the PowerPuff Girls apparently killing Mojo, this leads to dissention amongst them and they go their separate ways. Blossom ends up dealing with a ton of stress. Buttercup quits and becomes a firefighter. And Bubbles is either a prostitute, or a failed Hollywood actress.

Jojo, Mojo's son, grows up to be the mayor of Townsville. Oh yeah, Mojo Jojo, who was Professor Utonium's hyperactive simian lab assistant, is just a human. With a kid, apparently. And is seemingly an activist in protest of the PowerPuff Girls. I'm all for creative liberties when it comes to adaptations, but without a sense of heart or sincerity.

These same set of circumstances led to the failure of Cartoon Network's 2016 attempt to reboot the animated series. Series creator Craig McCracken was not brought on as a consultant, and fans were treated to a soulless reimagining of the once influential television show. In wake of this trailer the 2016 show can rest easy; it's not the worst adaptation of the PowerPuff Girls.
