Free Games Update | Nintendo Classics To Add Super Mario Sunshine, And New Games On Virtual Boy
The GameCube platformer joins the digital catalog, and two cancelled Virtual Boy titles

Nintendo has announced a new addition to the Nintendo Switch Online Service. Through the + Expansion Pack, subscribers will be able to play Super Mario Sunshine on August 13th. Veering from the open world nature of its predecessor, Super Mario 64, Sunshine opts for a more linear and mission-based structure to gather Shine Sprites.
Mario and his friends arrive on the southern paradise of Delfino Island for a vacation. However, Mario is falsely accused of vandalizing the island with graffiti. Promising to clean up the island, Mario sets out to prove his innocence and find the real culprit in order to recover the sun's power, "Shine," which was lost due to the graffiti. The game features water-based action, such as using a "pump" on his back to defeat enemies with water jets and fly through the air.
UNRELEASED VIRTUAL BOY GAMES
Along with the GameCube additions comes two previously unreleased games for the Virtual Boy. Fully developed, but never had a chance to see launch dates due to the Virtual Boy's commercial failure, Nintendo fans will have a chance to play D-Hopper and Zero Racer (based on the F-Zero series). The Virtual Boy didn't have a particularly large library of games, and there's still a handful of titles in Japan, it's pretty neat to see obscure software come to light. These games will be released August 4th, 2026.
