Very little affected the anticipation and appeal of Nintendo's new follow-up console. The developer/publisher has formally announced on Wednesday the Switch 2 has trounced its console sales record in just four days.

Since its launch on June 5th, the Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million units, seeing a very strong demand weekend. This marks the new hybrid console as the fastest selling Nintendo system of all time. Following the weekend of stores being blitzed, most major retailers have listed "out of stock" on their online stores. Based on early sales figures, and if these numbers remain within this ballpark, this could put the Switch 2 on path to sell 15 million units by the end of the fiscal year ending in March 2026. For comparison, the original Nintendo Switch sold 2.74 million units in its FIRST MONTH.

Could those numbers be modest? Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, believes so.

“The market expected a record from Nintendo, and as it turns out, Nintendo delivered,” Toto told CNBC. “All signals prior to launch pointed to significant demand, and I believe we will see further records broken over the next weeks or months."

The Price was Right

While few had taken umbrage the Switch 2's price ($399.99USD), much of the controversy preceding the hybrid console's launch over the increase of price for software, seeing some first and third party games hitting the $79.99USD threshold. Along with that, the divisive use of game key cards, which is more an access code that allows users to use the key to download software from the Nintendo eShop, the question of "true game ownership" has been sparked.

The threat of "Section 301 Tariffs" issued by President Donald Trump, which have been vacated via a court ruling or are still held in appeal, have not had an effect on demand of the Switch 2. It could be something to monitor down the down, but for now, perhaps the mentality among consumers is to purchase what's available in a currently unpredictable market. There are no reported numbers as of this writing regarding software sales, but Mario Kart World being a launch title certainly helps the appeal.
