With Nintendo and Microsoft making the changes for prices on console hardware based on the global market conditions, it was only a matter of time before Sony would make the changes as well. The PlayStation 5 will see a $50USD price hike on all three versions of the PlayStation 5 systems, effective August 21st.

"Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21," Sony confirmed on a post from PlayStationBlog. The price changes are as follows:

PlayStation 5 - $549.99USD

PlayStation 5 Digital Edition - $499.99USD

PlayStation 5 Pro - $749.99(USD)

Prices for accessories will remain the same. These price increases to "navigate a challenging economic environment" very likely includes the impact of President Donald Trump's tariffs on imported goods. This is beginning to take its toll on how business are operating, as well as placing a significant strain on the consumer. Nintendo has even increased the price of the original Switch at the beginning of August.
