Massive cuts to staff have come to Electronic Arts after it was reported that the publisher/developer made the choice to lay off somewhere between 300 to 400 employees, including approximately 100 team members from Respawn Entertainment on April 29th. The report comes by way of Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, as along with the heavy slashing of its crew, two video game projects ended up being scrapped.

Respawn posted a statement on Twitter/X:

“As we sharpen our focus for the future, we’ve made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. “These decisions aren’t easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected—their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today. We’re offering meaningful support to those impacted, including exploring new opportunities within [Electronic Arts].”

Respawn is still on board to produce a third entry in the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi series, following the story of Cal Kestis. Good news on the Star Wars front, but at the expense of Titanfall fans. As Bloomberg's reporting continues, one of the two cancelled games included an extraction shooter based on Titanfall, code-named "R7". Electronic Arts seemingly continues to reinvent and reshape Apex Legends, which despite the fluctuating player count. remains a popular game. But it does not seem to allow much exploration for Respawn with other ventures.
