  • The original Nintendo Switch line of machines will be manufactured and available in Europe through 2026. The Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite consoles will no longer be sold at retailers in mid-February 2027

It appears Nintendo is beginning to phase out retail sales of its original Nintendo Switch line of consoles in Europe. While revised versions of Switch 2 devices and peripherals that meet the new standards of Europe's replaceable battery regulations will be making their way to consumers*, the Switch 1 family will be retired altogether. While there are plans to continue manufacturing Switch 1's, chances are Nintendo has no intention of revising the near decade old hybrid console. This news came in a blog post from Nintendo, the details are tucked in the FAQ section of the support page.

Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model will all continue to be manufactured in 2026, and should be widely available in Europe all year.

From mid-February 2027, almost ten years after Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017, Nintendo will no longer sell to retailers hardware in the Nintendo Switch family of systems – specifically Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model. Sales of Nintendo Switch hardware on Nintendo Store will also end in mid-February 2027.

It's something that can be seen as reasonable. The Switch 1 launched in 2017, and catapulted Nintendo back into consumer demand during its run. The handheld device over exceeded expectations, despite its limited technical capabilities, focusing on the luxury of portability. And while the line-up of software for the Switch 2 has been on the lean side since launching in 2026, it has become one of the fastest selling game consoles on the planet.

The OG Switch also recently saw a price hike across the board, as well as the Switch 2 earlier this year (that will take effect in September). For consumers in Europe, perhaps sooner rather than later is the time to invest in Switch, Lite, and OLED parts for the foreseeable future.
