With the official reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, speculation began about its release date and potential price point. According to information leaked by EXtas1s, a leaker with a rather convincing track record of insider information, Nintendo's next console could see a window of about 3 months from this writing. According to a video uploaded on March 15th (the upload is in Spanish, be sure to adjust subtitle settings accordingly), the information provided indicates that the Switch 2 could be priced around $400 or more, if the current economic trade wars have any impact on matters.

“According to what I’ve been told, the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently planned for release at the end of June [2025],” EXtas1s states. “I don’t have an exact date, but that’s the current target. What I’m hearing is that it will be officially revealed in early April, with a release set for late June."

According to an article from Tom's Guide, that date speculation can be corroborated, as an individual, Sean, a former employee in Nintendo's sales department, also eyed a summer release window for the Nintendo Switch 2. This would place the new hybrid console launching around the time before school lets up.

Now, about those launch games. Based on the reveal trailer of the system, Mario Kart 9 appears to be all but confirmed. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was a smashing success throughout the lifespan of the Wii U and the Switch, so as a launch title, it could be an easy seller. As EXtas1s's video continues, other names mentioned include Elden Ring, Dragonball: Sparking! Zero, and Tekken 8.

These are several third party titles reportedly set to make their way to Nintendo's next platform. As EXtas1s's reporting continues, indications also highlight some high profile games under the Xbox label could potentially end up on the Switch 2.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

  • Fallout 4

  • Starfield

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Before the Activision Blizzard purchase was finalized by Microsoft, Xbox and Nintendo agreed to a binding deal that could see ABK games like the Call of Duty series coming to the Mario producer's platform. In principle, it was clear that was planned for the eventual Switch 2.

Thus far, there is little information on how many first party games are planned for the launch of the Switch 2 beyond a Mario Kart entry, but the line of third party software speculated this early is no doubt a promising start for this next generation of Nintendo. It will also challenge the horsepower of the Switch 2. Insiders indicate it will be a significant step up from the original system's engine, which ran on modified Tegra X1 chips, the new machine is estimated to be as powerful as the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro. Specs wise, this puts it behind the current running Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, so how well will modern games be optimized?

It will certainly be an eventful couple of weeks, as many await the April 2nd Nintendo Direct.
