While Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. has given an opportunity for new and old fan alike to experience, SEGA's staff Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (known for their work on the yakuza and Lost Judgement series) remains hard at work on the newest entry in their revolutionary 3D fighting game. No official title has been given to the game as of this writing, it's currently under the moniker "New Virtua Fighter Project".

In their first VF Direct since December, producers Riichiro Yamada and Seiji Aoki revealed the first look at veteran pro wrestler, Wolf Hawkfield.

Certainly looking fierce since his last appearance, Aoki speaks about how the this incarnation of Virtua Fighter will flesh out the personalities of the roster more. Known for its purity, the Virtua Fighter series never featured much in the way of in-game storylines to follow. Generally, plot continuity was mostly cataloged in the manuals of the home ports.

"Legacy characters have been refined for the modern age, but remain authentic at their core," Aoki speaks during the Spring 2025 VF Direct. "Wolf's motivation this time is his love for pro wrestling."

There's no projected release window or platforms announced for the New Virtua Fighter Project, but we will keep an eye on the developments.
