Voice actor and narrator George Lowe, perhaps best known for his role as the Hanna-Barbera sci-fi hero turned talk show host Space Ghost, passed away March 4th, 2025, following a long battle with an illness.
Born in Dunedin, Florida, Lowe got his start in radio at the age of 15 at WWJB, a local radio station. He provided occasional voices throughout the 80's and early 90's (including a role in the 1989 Beetlejuice animated series) at TBS and Cartoon Network in various roles before securing the role of Space Ghost in 1994. A revolutionary concept, Lowe's Space Ghost character retired from his 60's television show, Space Ghost (September 10, 1966 - September 16, 1967) to become the first animated talk show host on Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, the first show created by Williams Street Productions (formerly known as Ghost Planet Industries). The first episode of the second season hosted the World Premiere Toon-In, which served as a vehicle for the new generation of Cartoon Network animation, like Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, and The Powerpuff Girls.

Along with Space Ghost, Lowe and the character would host Cartoon Planet, a spin-off created due the popularity of Coast to Coast. These shows would establish the primetime block for Cartoon Network throughout the mid and late 90's. With the creation of the Adult Swim animation block, Lowe would continue to provide voices in many of the late night shows, including playing the role of himself in Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, Robot Chicken, Perfect Hair Forever, Squidbillies, and the role of Dad in the newer version of The Brak Show, which replaced the variety-styled Brak Presents The Brak Show Starring Brak with a sitcom format.
After SGC2C's cancellation in 2008, Lowe would reprise the role of the superhero in various cameos. In video games, Lowe was a recurring presence in Artix Entertainment Games like Mech Quest and AdventureQuest Worlds where he played a spirit masquerading as a park ranger who tells stories that eventually feeds on fear. His last role was reprising Space Ghost in Jellystone!.
