It turns out that the speculation of a new Star Fox project in the works has been confirmed. As correctly reported by insider NatetheHate, Nintendo essentially shadowdropped a 15 minute Direct to highlight a newly developed Star Fox title. Simply titled "Star Fox", this will be a cinematic incarnation of Star Fox 64, with overhauled controls, updated character models (something that is definitely not a controversial topic on the social platforms), a new soundtrack, and fully voiced cut sequences.

Maniacal scientist Andross seeks control of the Lylat star system, and only Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team stand in his way. Pilot your Arwing and travel the system battling opposing forces and performing thrilling aerial maneuvers, like barrel rolls and somersaults, to shake off enemies. Find alternative routes through the Lylat System during multiple playthroughs, taking on new missions and varied challenges. Plus, team up with friends in the new 4-vs-4 multiplayer Battle Mode

WHAT'S NEW IN STAR FOX?

How does a rail shooter reinvent itself? This more cinematic venture will include robust cutscenes to flesh out the characters and story considerably more than previous titles. The aforementioned 4v4 Battle Mode will pit 8 players against each other in dogfights between Star Fox and the villainous team Star Wolf. The battle stages will come with different objectives, like gathering crystals (Fichina), retrieving cargo from Space Pirates (Sector Y), or securing designated zones (Corneria).

Star Fox will take advantage of the Joy Con 2's Mouse features. This can be done co-op, as one player can take flight, while the second player mans the guns. If you have the Switch 2 Camera, the game can utilize GameChat functions, like appearing as Fox himself, or his friends while chatting live with your human buddies.

Fox's appearance in Super Mario Bros. Galaxy will aid in broadening out his appeal to a new generation of Nintendo fans, while also garnering interest from longtime fans of the series who have been itching to see Fox, Peppy, Falco, and Slippy hop back into the Arwings again.

Star Fox Zero blasts of June 25th for the Nintendo Switch 2.
