Are you a fan of Real-time Strategy? A genre that was once a staple of 90's PC gaming and held on a pedestal by noted franchises like Warcraft, Dune, and Command & Conquer, it is seeing a return to form with the launch of Tempest Rising, now available on Steam. But in a strange set of circumstances, it launched a full week early by mistake.

Developed by Danish game producer Slipgate Ironworks (Phantom Fury, Rise of the Triad), the army-building warfare action game was initially supposed to hit the digital retailer on April 24th. It appears there was a mistake in the seven-day early unlock feature on Steam for those who purchased the Deluxe Edition. Standard customers would be locked out until the street date. However, the game fully launched and was available to everybody. Slipgate decided to just run with it and confirm April 17th as Tempest Risings' official availability in a community post.

We’ve been blown away by the response from the community in the 24 hours since our Early Unlock launch!

"
As many of you noticed, Tempest Rising was unexpectedly made available yesterday morning for all players who pre-ordered the game," the statement reads. "While the team worked quickly to address the issue, the most seamless solution ended up being to release the game to everyone. This means that right now you can buy either the Standard or Deluxe Editions and play today!"

While every fan can indulge in the perks of the Deluxe access, what does this mean for those who pre-ordered the special edition? Slipgate intends to make good on those customers by providing some exclusive content in due time to make up for the loss of the exclusive access period and early unlock rewards.

That's certainly a way to make the best out of a tough situation. Tempest Rising is currently available on Steam.
