The Xbox platform is continuing to evolve its ecosystem. We recently speculated the seemingly growing odds of games under the Microsoft umbrella branching out to systems like the Nintendo Switch 2, and according to imagery spotted by The Verge, the company may be including larger plans to broaden its digital gaming access via Steam.

Originally posted on March 20th, a blog from Microsoft, Opening a Billion Doors with Xbox, spoke of its multi-detailed plan to expand it ecosystem, highlighting the new updates and functionality of the Xbox PC app, access to Game Pass via Fire TV, LG, and Samsung, and the development of its new handheld device, currently codenamed project "Keenan". In a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, while the image displayed the Xbox App's UI that will appear on multiple platforms, Tom Warren of The Verge caught the Steam labeling on the sorting filter tab.

Since the original post of their blog, Microsoft quickly removed the image and provided a new image with the slogan.

While this interface seems to be for the Xbox App on PC, should it come to fruition, what would be the odds that a Steam crossover feature could make its way to the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. As far as the proprietary hardware goes, we still don't have much information on Xbox's planned handheld is capable of. No doubt Game Pass, the digital service that has been one of Xbox's marquee features, would be a significant part of the built-in library, would Steam be accessible from it? The Steam Deck can already take advantage of XCloud Gaming by installing Microsoft Edge and customizing configurations. Citing the verge article once again, the Xbox App update could read all of the games downloaded on your PC. But Xbox Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has spoken in the past about Epic Games Store and Itch.io storefronts possibly appearing on Xbox in the future.

Longstanding rumors have circled about regarding a partnership between the digital storefront giant and Microsoft, but Valve's focus remains solely on PC gaming through the continuing development of SteamOS and the Steam Deck. Since the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, Xbox themselves has integrated their software to other major platforms, allowing big franchises like Call of Duty and Fallout to be shared on the aforementioned Nintendo systems and the PlayStation family of consoles.
